When to Take Engagement Photos

He popped the question and you said “YES!”

Now what?

You are flooded with so many emotions and you have a million and one questions!

I’m sure one of the questions you have pondered is when to take engagement photos.

Plain and simple, your engagement photos should be taken as soon as possible. Taking your pictures should happen early in your wedding planning process, roughly 1-2 months into your planning process.

Why so early?

You want to take your engagement photos within the first 2 months of your engagement because:

1. It’s better to get THESE pictures out of the way before you get heavy into planning.

There is a special kind of glow that couples have when they are newly engaged.

Your engagement pictures are going to be used for everything dealing with your wedding. By having these pictures done early, you won’t have to worry about needing a beautiful image to use later. Also, as the wedding gets closer, your schedules likely get busy. Waiting to take engagement photos will become stressful if you wait to late, when it should be an exciting and beautiful experience.

2. You can catch photographers before they get busy.

Photographers are usually the first vendor to get booked because… it’s pretty important to have great photos of the best day of your life. When you book your engagement session early this gives you the opportunity to book your favorite photographer in advance of your big day and before their schedule gets busy.

3. You get to know your photographer

The engagement session is a chance for the photographer and couple to get to know each other. It’s also a chance for you as a bride to see if you actually like the work the photographer does for you.

An engagement session is the perfect opportunity to know if you truly like the style of the photographer you hire. It is best to get this out of the way sooner than later.

Every photographer-couple relationship is different! Even if your heart is set on a photographer, an engagement session is important to really get a feel for each other. It’s also good because you get to see pictures of YOU taken by the photographer.

In the end, make sure you take your engagement photos as soon as possible. It’s never too early to take these photos that will mark the start of a new journey in your life.
